ABOUT

Robert thony, PLLC

Creators. We all fit that description in one sense or another.

We human beings, we make things—it’s in our DNA. Drafting and sending emails, sparking up a conversation, making TikTok videos, sending out a tweet, hell, having babies; these are all tangible manifestations of the creative process. But the bold among us, those who recognize and tap into their creativity for greater purposes, to make others feel the deepest of emotions through a song, take an audience on a ride with a compelling screenplay or novel, build a business that serves a need for humanity; these are the folks that I have dedicated my life to helping through my skills in law, business and the arts.

I caught the music bug early on, watching Liberace performances on PBS. The aesthetic brilliance of those black and white keys could only be surpassed in poignance by the wonderous soundscape that seemed to blast, hum, from the instrument’s curvaceous black frame. I had to learn to do what he was doing. “Can I take piano lessons?” my 9 year old self uttered meekly to my parents. I wouldn’t take “no” for an answer.

Decades removed from that first spark, the passion still gleams brightly, but now directed toward those who create and need the legal and business infrastructure to best protect and monetize their creations. Songwriters, recording artists, producers, record labels, music publishers. I help them negotiate the best music deals possible based on their needs, their leverage and their overall goals. Actors, directors, filmmakers. I help them bring structural integrity and transactional vibrancy to their audiovisual works through the dealmaking, fundraising and administrative process, a process that often rings the death knoll for projects where legal and business paperwork is not in order. Social media influencers and content creators.

I protect their best interests as they traverse the exhilarating yet potentially treacherous landscape that is the internet.

This is my life. Nothing makes me happier than using my skills in law, business and the arts, to realize a creator’s vision and support that creator in making something that didn’t exists before. Something that makes others’ lives better. Something, a book, a hit song, a groundbreaking film, a tech business, that impacts. That pushes us all forward toward greater fulfillment as individuals and as a people.
